African comics that are mildly shocking for children and decidedly refreshing for adults.

The short tales in this book are poetic, slightly absurd and occasionally dark. Although most of them come from African folklore, their child storytellers have adapted them in peculiar ways. The stories reached artist David Böhm in the Czech Republic via his sister Terezie, as a stack of compositions from a little school in Central Africa. The imagination of the Dark Continent poses a serious challenge to our European idea of what makes a fairy tale.
