Teeth: You Only Get Two Sets
age 6-8

“Kids tend to be fascinated by teeth, especially when their own start falling out, and this visually engaging offering introduces considerable amounts of information via dynamic spreads spilling across pages. Comically exaggerated close-ups in eye-popping colors propel brief text excerpts that describe tooth composition, human tooth cycles (baby teeth, permanent, and technically a third set: wisdom), why teeth are important (eating, talking, smiling), choosing toothbrushes and using them correctly, foods to enjoy, practices to avoid, reassuring information about dentist office visits, and interesting tidbits on possible future phenomena: braces, crowns, implants, and dentures. Options for removing a loose tooth range from waiting it out to tying it to a doorknob or large rock, and a final tableau features kids sporting various animal fangs, tusks, and prongs. The overall message—take care of these unique objects!—comes through loud and clear, aptly supported by numerous illustrations, diagrams, and flowcharts. Though a bit too busy for a read-aloud, this will still snag browsers and makes an appealing addition to the tooth fairy canon.”

Hide and Seek in Nature
Kidding Nature | Ages 3-5

A twofer! Well these are fun. Hope you like die-cuts, cause this duo is rife with them. Essentially, you get hints about something on one page but have to peek through their die-cuts to see what they actually are. Think of it as a book that teaches you to look at things in original ways.

The First Snow
Ages 3-5

"PreS-Gr 2–A beautifully crafted picture book for young children, done through the partnership of Czech creators. A sister and brother are awakened early one Saturday morning by the sun coming through their window. Snow has fallen and the whole world has changed. It is the magic of the first snow. They spend their day outside, playing in the snow. They then get to work and make a snow bear, which takes them on a great adventure. They notice animal tracks in the snow, fill a bird feeder, and discover an ice castle where they find a long-lost treasure. When they return home, their mother is able to join them in the snowy, white magical world. Štumpfová and Mallý are authors of several picture books for young children that celebrate nature and provide teachable moments for parents and educators. Teachers can incorporate this title into their lessons about seasons, and it is great source for building vocabulary words. VERDICT Educators or parents can use this book to encourage and enhance children’s imaginations and to inspire them to start their own first snow traditions."
