Born in Rakovník, Milada Rezková graduated in Languages and Literatures from the University of Hradec Králové, then in Creative Writing from the Josef Škvorecký Writers’ Academy, where she studied under Daniela Fischerová. Between 2004 and 2010 she worked in the production department of the Rudolfinum Gallery in Prague, where she helped organize exhibitions of works by Neo Rauch, Georg Baselitz and Gottfried Helnwein, among others. Since 2008 she has been writing children’s books in cooperation with illustrator Lukáš Urbánek and graphic artist Jakub Kaše, beginning with the Doktor Racek [Dr Seagull] series and continuing with Babočky [Magic Butterflies], which takes a gentle look at the theme of death. Milada, Lukáš and Jakub have also co-authored the awesome books Neboj, neboj! [Don’t Be Scared] and Velký Bobek [Big Bobby]. In collaboration with Mařenka Urbánková, to whom she is proud, loving mother-in-law, Milada co-authored Tajemství za sněhovým knírkem [The Secret behind the Snowy Moustache] for Albatros publishers. She is a regular contributor to the children’s magazine Raketa. She is chair of the Raketa dětem association, which holds exhibitions of illustrations and literature workshops for children, often with Lukáš Urbánek. She is fond of juggling and trying to get better at it. In winter, she goes cross-country skiing in the Giant Mountains, wearing a gold skirt. She prepares for this from spring to autumn, ideally in the River Berounka. She has two to four children.
